Little Skout for Dames of Distinction Launch Party

Last night the lovely Dahlia Black and I decided to hop on down to Dames of Distinction, a vintage boutique specialising in lingerie and hair and makeup styling; situated in Melbourne's CBD. Little Skout, a delightful brand of knickers, was making a debut in the boutique and I didn't want to miss it. The brand is handmade and designed in Melbourne by Kalaurie Karl-Crooks - who is an absolute darling, may I add - All of her pieces are either one of a kind or limited edition, which isn't something we see often in the lingerie industry, and upon inspection one can tell that they are made with much love and care. Needless to say I was enthusiastic to get my first look at Dames of Distinction and acquire a pair of beautiful knickers at the same time.

Now, I don't get all that excited over vintage lingerie, it's never been something that I've delved into but when I walked into the boutique I was overwhelmed and very much drawn to all the gorgeous girdles, bullet bras and knickers placed neatly around the room with vintage books of all sorts and magnificent decor. It's truly any lingerie lovers dream and I can imagine those that love vintage lingerie might feel a little weak at the knees. Greeted by the alluring Margeaux who is the stylist at Dames, I instantly felt at ease - something that is rare in social situations as anxiety normally gets the better of me - and was then introduced to Kalaurie, who was happy to have a chat and tell me a little bit more about the brand and show which knickers she thought would be a good fit for me.

If you've seen my lingerie collection on tumblr, you'll know I'm not overly fond of pastels or anything typically "cute" and "girly", it's the occasional jewel tones amongst a sea of black for me. So when I had a peak at Little Skout's Etsy page before hand, I didn't think I would exactly fall in love with anything. Well, I fell and I fell hard. I found myself torn between a few styles and spent quite a while trying to decide on which I would get. I ended up settling on a powder blue pair which has little clusters of flowers embroidered neatly on them. They fit perfectly and have a most flattering cut and I do believe if I paired them with some wooly tights and a pretty blouse I could get away with wearing them as shorts. I adore them and definitely need a few more pairs in the future.

I had a marvelous time meeting many of the vintage loving ladies of Melbourne who were all quite happy to chat. I would like to say a special thank you to Margeaux and Jacinta, the owners of the boutique for making me feel welcome and hosting a great party and to Kalaurie for bringing such unique and wonderful lingerie to the world, those knickers are really something special.
